SHOPPING - Antidote (2)

How about a quick Antidote review ? I have no idea when this was exactly released, but I actually bought stuff from it on sunday evening.. and some things were still available. But I think I missed the most interesting part of this release. Here is a little compendium of my laziness :

This collection obviously take us to the Vetements/Acne/etc. trends. Oversized, unfeminine, streetwear and statement pieces. I promised myself that I would not buy dresses anymore, because they are too many in my closet and I have almost no use for them (tell me you're experiencing the same thing !). But here, I think that my best buy was... the dress. I love its shape and the mesh thing that gives it a delicate touch ! I don't really have an opinion for the rest ; but I'm quite anticipating what I may create with the Balenciaga bag and the weird booties.

The theme I chose for this batch of outfits is "some Disney princesses". I think they definitely fit in a commercial for Vetements/Acne/etc. No, jk héhé ; but still, I thought that it would be fun to imagine them as today's young generation...

1. Ariel as a sunset on the sea - Antidote top and pants.
2. Belle as a Parisian book lady - Antidote dress, D&G bag, Erdem skirt & Marc Jacobs fur.
3. Aurore as the teenager that just woke up - Antidote tights and beanie, D&G undershirt & Chanel bag.
4. Elsa as a posh storm (yeah sorry that's poor I know) - Antidote bag and booties, Balmain skirt.

That's it !
So, what do you think ?
hope you enjoyed it,
cheers,

5! : how to deal with 2017 trends - FLOWER edition.

That article is sleeping in the "unpublished" section for too long. It needs to be release ; because this end of 2016 is going to be busy. FM-Style cycle 13 is coming up (guess who is JUDGING haha) and Tribute are just around the corner. So, better be ready right ?

I wanted to comment what Vogue France has established as the trends of 2017. Luckily for the 5! column, there are indeed 5 of them : flowers, sports, pink, metallic and b&w.

While reading the Vogue article, the "flower" they are promoting here isn't any kind of pattern. It has to be like your grandmother's kitchen in the 70s (no no no not again). This wallpaper-ish version of a flower pattern is quite bright and clearly a statement. I've tried to figure out in this article how I would style it. As usual, please, feel free to comment because, well, with this trend, I must admit I'm a little confused...

THE RESEARCH

I want this confusion to go away. My weapon : Pinterest. With method, you can overcome any hard situation. Here are some chosen picks of what I've found that could be interesting as an inspiration. The first series of pictures are from runaways and SS 2017 (mostly resort) collections. You can spot in order of appearance D&G, Gucci, Erdem, Valentino and Cavalli.

Then, I praised Alexa. As I'm a total freak and I almost know her wardrobe by heart, I recalled that she wore somehow a Christopher Kane dress that had some weird flowerish pattern. It took me quite a moment to find it (hence the fail on the left - that's the google shenanigan) ; it is more known on Emma Watson than on Alexa, but you know, I don't really care about anyone else than Alexa so.. I've posted the runway version (right) so you may get it a little better..

Since Christopher Kane seemed to be a good start, I search for what he planed for SS 2017. And that's a bingo ! I loved how he paired it with gingham. I think I'll follow him on that path, but also on the fact that using touches, that are mostly graphic instead of wallpaperish, can brighten an outfit without killing it.

THE OUTFITS

Level 1 : the Kane dress

Ok let's start with that dress I've just talked about. Surely I have it in my closet (remember how psych about Alexa I can be) ; the deal is to match its details with accessories (the "detail" part of the outfit) of the same color scheme. The rest is plain black so the accent stays on the texture of the dress. Only the flowers are highlighted here.

Level 2 : shy flowers

This vest is perfect : flowers but not the "show off" kind of. The whole outfit has to remain basic, only the accessories and shoes should recall the outfit (it's only a touch, not a full twinset coordination). The flowers are here but they are not making the whole thing weird.

Level 3 : the grandmother skirt

There is just a key here to overcome an old flower pattern : the modernity of the other clothing used. A structured coat that brings seriousness to the naive flowers, lines on the sweater that gives energy to this floppy skirt and a pair of combat boots that your grandmother definitely cannot put on. Who says old now ?

Level 4 : how to punk the flowers

Embroidery flowers sounds like punk flowers. JK no they don't ; so they will be perfect for my punk outfit. The thing would be cliché to go entirely punk. Touches are more surprising.. it's as if you were creating a path that links the whole thing. The embroidery flowers echoed to the gem flowers of the bag, that goes with that silver choker that goes with those combat boots. Yeah, like touches that give the general vibe.

Level 5 : blue "editorialist" flowers

I'm not joking anymore. I don't see many blue flowers - I can name some but they are quite rare where I live. A blue, unusual flower should be then perfect for the editorialist outfit. As you may noticed, the previous outfits were paired with black ; therefore, I chose white here. I added structure to the center of the bust and blur to the arms ; minimalism is the key here - only shapes should be a statement. The flowers are surrounding the outfit without smothering it.

That's it !
So, what do you think ?
hope you enjoyed it,
cheers,

HOTTEST BUYS OF THE MONTH - November 2016

HELLO hello ! I'm not writing much these days, but that doesn't mean I'm forgetting about the blog. Let's say that I kinda have to force myself to log in these days.. not inspired or I don't know. Sometimes it comes and goes !
Anyway, there is one thing I cannot avoid - and this is still a pleasure to chat about it : the Hotbuys column ! So, without useless rambling, here is my review of last month's release.
Just a quick note : I didn't really took part in the comps of SMW and SSS related to Hotbuys, but please please please, take some time to check them out ! I promise, you won't regret it 😉

Alright so, this month's release was quite "retro-ish" (90's to 00's ?). I must admit that I was truly waiting for that kind of "tank" cleavage so I can work with it on the site.. but unfortunately, it turned out as unusable for my taste (like I think I just need a regular length, basic-colored tank top). Still, some pieces are staples and I ended up buying a lot (7 items this month !). See below :

Here are what I bought :
- the long dress : love the cleavage, but not sure about the length
- the tank top : love the cleavage, but not sure about the color
- the cashmere sweater : this one IRL is a wanted piece
- the mom jeans : more wearable than these
- the platform sneakers : kind of Spice Girls, but kind of today-ish
- the granny purse : I needed some silver detailed purse..
- the chain-choker : perfect, embellishes everything, goes with everything. #1 BFF.

And here are the outfits that I've made with some of them :

1. Going through winter doesn't mean you have to dress like your grandma - HB sneakers.
2. That sweater goes with everything - HB sweater + choker, Saint Laurent blazer + purse.
3. When you're on holidays at your parents and you accidentally stained your jeans - HB jeans, Kenzo  sweater & Hermes bag.

That's all !
So, what did you get ?

cheers, M.

SHOPPING : LE - Fall 2016

YAAAAAS ! LE !
I received the warning mail and I couldn't help being excited ! But the thing is, I couldn't connect when the release was online, and this costed me the loss of some of the best pieces of this collection.

OK, so welcome to the Frustration 1.0.1 classroom. Please, take a seat. There were statement pieces in this collection ; the true gem kind of. Editorially speaking, you did "insert a bunch of rude words" great, Stardoll ! I can't say how much I love this collection, although some of the pieces are not my style, the ones that I love are just PURE GOLD.

Ok here is a little compendium of what I would have bought if I weren't that slow.
I mean : I missed a black blazer, dammit.

But still, I think I did great with "the leftovers". I'm satisfied with every single piece that I've got. Also, let's be honest, I haven't bought much - it's the actual first time my wallet feels so empty so quickly.. I'm afraid there should have been an issue in between me and the prices (come on, around 90 for a blouse ?).

Ah, and we're also experiencing some turbulences..
The Chanel make-up (yes, I bought the palette IRL and trust me I'll have burgundy wine color on my face all along winter) isn't really "to scale" ;
see below :

Anyway, let's move on to the outfits :

Just a quick note : we had a very nice headband as a freebie, and I must say I'm impressed by the quality of the object ; it's definitely filed in the category : most rentable items ever (remember the white freebie shirt). Also, all those accessories gave me some inspiration to work with gowns, and I'm so happy it happened, like I left them aside for such a long time it was starting to frustrate me a little bit...

1. Born to be a dancer - Saint Laurent blazer, D&G body, Wolford body, Chanel jewelry & DKNY stilettos.
2. Delicate cat - Maison Michel headband, Rodarte blouse, DVF purse, PPQ shoes + skirt.
3. Punk people still can't dress up properly but who cares - Michael Kors dress & Cavalli purse.

4. Melissandre goes to the grocery store - Valentino gown + stilettos, Versus clutch & Celine bangle.

Anyway,
What did you think about this ?
That was a good one !
I'll give it a 8/10.
ok, maybe I'm just too frustrated, but eh..
Next time, I'll be on time ;)

Cheers,
M.

5! - "how to deal with the last Fallen Angel release"

Hello-hello !

I feel kind of nostalgic these days, so I guess it is time to bring back the "good oldies" ! Actually, I never knew if 5! was a "good" one ; it is the very first segment of the blog, but also the shortest - only one article ! And since I couldn't find any nice new way for what I want to express right now, maybe it is time to do some recycling...

5! was originally a column created for my selfish purposes. I give myself a challenge and try to solve it out through examples - let's say 5 outfits/versions for the same random theme/shop/whatever. I'd explain my process so you might find some handy tips to accommodate things your way. I don't pretend to know everything, and that my rambling state what has to be done. I want to give you here clues to challenge your creativity ; so feel free to comment, discuss, argue what you read !

I never buy straight form the shop when there is a release (unless it is limited in any manner) ; I'm quite greedy I must say, waiting for a potential sale ! Most of the time, it's frustrating me : I think there are some very good pieces coming out of the "basic" shops. That's mainly why I chose to work with the last Fallen Angel's release.
My mother used to be goth - like the true goth from the 80's - all she have left now are a bunch of studded things and black embroidered dresses. She always had this sharp sense of style, and thanks to that I always considered goth fashion as something very well though out and with some sort of sophistication in the process of composing an outfit. This last release tho seems to be experiencing a cold welcome : not goth enough according to some, too girlish for others. I must say, I don't really have an opinion here ; I think it kinda respect the goth vibe : there is some sort of a shy, distant, cold feeling about it playing with the ballerina (hello Black Swan) and the Victorian torn apart clothing.

Alright. So, let me show you what I've picked. Unfortunately, no good deal here ; there were all quite stardollarish expensive. The quality is quite good tho.

Batwing blush body : definitely the piece I wanted to put my hands on. The shape is very interesting and I love how the neckline looks (you know, plunging but not too revealing) ; I think it'll look great on layered outfits.
Lace detail swing dress : two things about it, the see-through details on the top part and this insane material game on the bottom. It looks so light and delicate !
High waisted polka dots pants : I'm fascinated by wide-leg pants, and I think that those ones are some very good ones. The fabric has a polka dot twist and there is no weird shape effect on the leg ; in a nutshell : a good funky staple.
Vail beanie : the popular item, although the vail seems tighten. Not sure about the beanie shape tho, but this is a good piece.
Sleeveless polka dot polo : the perfect layering material. The fabric has a very interesting pattern (not the pitch black that can be quickly boring to work with) and the shape allows it to be very versatile in its use.

But how can we use all of them ?
Well, let me show you how I would style those items into five outfits.

1. Industrial ballerina

I think that the key here is to break the ballerina effect ; therefore, I chose the industrial vibe : hardware-like accessories and chunky elements. There is still one good side of the ballerina that should be nice to use here : the sleek effect. I chose black for those contrasting pieces and I linked the whole outfit with an it-bag, soft like a ballerina but bold with its chains.

2. Acceptable in the 80's

I love the new-wave style of this turtleneck, so I decided to exaggerate thing a little bit here. I identified the 80's trends that could be useful here and assembled them together : boxy shoulders, waxy fabric and chunky heels, and added some plastic-like accessories with a bright statement color. I think that the key to keep this outfit serious and not costume-like is to scale the color scheme used : no plain pitch black, but different intensities of black, and one hint of color to wake the look up !

3. Revolting sweetheart

Sometimes with an outfit, I want to make a character trait stand out instead of a look. Here, I chose "sassy", because this blush pink dress was everything but this ! I think that, to complete that kind of look, you have to pair it with A LOT of gold features, and play with material : I want to give that "opulence" vibe, as if the person was disappearing behind her beloved things, in a nutshell, as if she was swallowed - by her vanity eheh.

4. Give a damn

I like the instant-chic effect of those pants : black, almost silky and cute thanks to the dots. But I must admit, the first thing that popped into my mind while trying to build an outfit out of it was their sort of "gangster" vibe. That oversize side also screamed to be underlined ; so I decided to go wide on the outside and sleek on the inside (a pair of tank tops and a thin scarf), making sure to balance well the whole thing.

5. Madame Robot

OK, at this point, I must admit I was kind of annoyed to go on ; this column is taking me too long to elaborate. But, after all, this is its "true" first time, so it's ok if it's not perfect since the beginning, right ? jk. So, the last item was this beanie. That looks definitely like something you can see on all the cool girls' heads.. so I figured out, why not impersonate the coolest of the cool girls wearing this thing ? I'm obsessed with the series Mr. Robot these days, and I feel like this beanie would be perfect on Darlene's head. She is that free-spirit, free-minded person evolving in the shadows of the world (sigh, I know I have issues), so why not giving her the trendiest outfit in dark tones with a punk twist ? et voilà !

That's it !
So, what do you think ?
hope you enjoyed it,
cheers,
M.

HOTTEST BUYS OF THE MONTH - October 2016

Long time no see eh !
OK, I thought it was easy to keep up with a blog ; but my work is siphoning my brain off. When I go home, I just have the energy to eat something before falling deeply asleep in my sofa, with the laptop on and burning my knees.
But, you know, I always have some time for the Hotbuys section. So, here we go !

When I looked at the picture for the first time, I wasn't sure about my love for anything ; this is just too random for me. I can't see any guideline here, there is no editorial line here for me, just a bunch of items that don't really match.
Actually, this isn't a bad thing. When I took them one by one, creativity showed up and I could start figuring out how to deal with those. After all, counting the number of things that I've bought made me realize that this is quite a good release we had this month !

Here are the items that I've picked :
- the sweater : this collar is life
- the glasses : you can never have too many glasses
- the bracelet : seen on SSS - I'm such an influenced person
- the clutch : you can never have too many clutches
- the coat : it's that kind of thing you don't really know why you are buying it but you definitely know you need it although you'll never use it - moreover, the quality of the graphics here is insane !
- the shoes : it's a SMW gift, and you can never have too many SMW gifts.

1. In the need for blood - HB shoes, Saint Laurent jacket + necklace, Versus clutch, Isabel Marant undies.
2. The Hobbit : fashion week in the Shire - HB coat, D&G tiara + bag.
3. I have no idea whatsoever for a caption here - HB glasses + sweater, PPQ pumps.
4. In the need for ornaments - HB clutch + bracelet, Moschino blouse, Marc Jacobs fur, Sonia Rykiel beret.

Also, our friends at SSS started a very awesome new column,
in partnership with SMW.
If you like to get inspired and win things,
you should definitely check them out when a HB is released !

That's all !
So, what did you get ?

cheers, M.

SPOTLIGHT - Cycle 12, the results.

Ok, so I started to prepare and plan some articles for this forsaken blog, and I totally forgot to give the ultimate update on FM-Style's cycle 12 - that column that kept me writing here.

OK. OK. Spoiler alert (come on, you shouldn't feel spoiled, everyone knows about what happened, right ? eheh jk) : I WON. W. O. N.

I am a huge fan of Instagram, like, I don't post anything anymore on Facebook (which is just now for me the ultimate stalking device) ; all my life is on Instagram. But, you know, I'm not like those people that take really great pics. Mine are just random and messy things. Quite personal actually - I don't care about the likes - and if I did I might have gone into depression haha.

I felt like I wanted to post my IRL account but I'm still shy..
If Instagram was easier to use on computers, I think I'll definitely keep that stardoll account updated !

Here are my outfits in the same order as asked by the judges :

I tried to create something wearable throughout the day and the night, as if my doll wouldn't mind keeping her outfit she wore all day long to go out at night. She is both quiet and funky !

if I had to do FW, I would definitely have gone there as an editor-in-chief ; the outfit has to be flawless (I love the idea of a cold and distant person.. or snobbish, depends on your point of view ;D) and I guess inducing a trend, like "the lipstick isn't on the lips anymore" or else..

I worked on the "no big deal" side of the outfit : just a cool cashmere sweater, a coordinate pair of jeans and a comfy cardigan can be a good mix for "I'm not looking forward to accomplish anything today, but I still look ok !".

I literally took it as a tribute to autumn. The dress has a turtleneck and a slit, expressing both summer and winter. I added birds for the "migration" journey they are doing at this time of the year, and a huge hanging coat, you know, "just in case it's raining this afternoon" ; the loafers are just a nod to the "back to business" season.

I tried to create some contrast here : the heels and the jewelry and the YSL skirt are giving a very sophisticated/complex outfit, whereas the comfy blazer, the teeshirt and the huge and cuddly Chanel bag create a very chill vibe ; it's as if she has a very important meeting but she can totally go through it like.. no big deal ;)

Outfits #3 and #4 were the most liked by the judges, but I must admit that my favorite one is the #2. Anyway, if you want to check what everyone has done, click here (and here is my recap album). I really enjoyed this cycle, it's always a great opportunity to discover new talents and faces ! A huge congrats to everyone who participated, and a huge thanks for those who followed and commented ! Also, a huge hug to Marta and Sia, the two other finalists who were awesome challengers :)

That's it for this cycle !
Who were your favorites ?
What would you have done ?
Cheers,

M.
